Sneak Peek: 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS

by Mercedes in the News on May 24, 2010

Growing up we were told that you can’t judge a book by its cover, but as we’ve grown older and matured, we’ve realized that’s not the case! Let’s take a sneak peek at the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS, for example. As we’ve been given some undercover pictures of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS in action, the jury is still out of the second generation CLS. Will the new CLS be a step in the right direction or will Mercedes-Benz be taking a big step backwards? That’s up to you.

While details are somewhat hard to come by, it looks as though the upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS sports a more masculine, broader grill; larger headlights; and a more chiseled out front bumper. Some characteristics from the last generation CLS will be continued into the second generation, such as the roofline, body shape, and most notably the backside of the vehicle.

It looks as though Mercedes-Benz has taken a note from the Volkswagen CC with a larger front end of the vehicle. So why did Mercedes-Benz go with a larger nose on the 2012 CLS? The world’s drivers are not getting better, so Mercedes had to take some action. It appears as though Mercedes-Benz is working with the European pedestrian-protection standards – softer engine components and more space between the engine and hood – which should hopefully reduce the risk of pedestrian fatalities in collisions.

What more can we expect? Richmond KY Mercedes-Benz dealers expect to see a 268 horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine as well as a 382 horsepower, 5.5-liter V8 engine. Yes, we know what you’re thinking. What about the AMG model? Don’t worry; the AMG model will boast a 518 horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 engine or a turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine.

Although a Maryland Mercedes Dealer reports the economic slowdown posed significant challenges for premium automakers, the competition in this particular segment is heading up. Not only is the all-new 5 Series in demand worldwide, but an Infiniti dealership Auburn MA admits that the CLS will likely continue to be a formidable competitor to the Infinti M sedan as well.

Don’t expect to see the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS until 2011 arrives.
